I'd like to make a suggestion that users have the ability to completely stop receiving private messages (maybe in our mail preferences, there could be a checkbox that says, "check this if you would not like to receive private messages," or something to that affect.
while I don't know what kind of work would be involved to implement this sort of thing, I've seen it on many websites, and think it would be beneficial to have here.
I'm pretty sure under account setting there is such thing to disable user to send you private message. Unless they change it recently, which i fully doubt it.
I think Chelsea is right. When they made these last changes where it automatically sends a copy of the private message to your email address, I think the ability to opt out of receiving private messages disappeared. I will bring this topic to the admins' attention.
oh wow, they actually made some changes? hmm. how interesting. But, isn't it you can disable people from sending you emails as well? so, what happen if you disable both pm and email, then no one can send you anything...
You should go take a look at it under your account settings. Yes, some changes have been made.
I personally like receiving private messages in my email box.
That was a change pointed out in the anouncements, if I'm not mistaken a bit ago.
This change keeps me from having to log on to see what my message is.
I can read it, and decide when I'm ready to come answer, or if I need to do it sooner then later.
But, I can see how that might bother others.
The other feature I do miss, is when people could send me a direct email from here.
This gave me the ability to answer them directly from my email address if I chose.
But, I do like the new change.
I don't think she cares about email alerts. I think she is wanting to stop receiving PM's completely. Other than putting individual members on ignore for PM's, I don't think stopping all PM's is possible at this time.
Becky is right. I don't care about anything relating to email alerts; I care about not receiving private messages from users, which is not the same thing, nor has it ever been an option, as far as I can remember.
Anthony, thanks for trying to help, by bringing it to the attention of the admins. it's much appreciated; I was hesitant to bring it up, cause I figured it would fall on deaf ears, but in the end, I figure it's at least worth a shot.

If not the emails, I thought the others could be stopped by turning off all public messages.
Maybe go to your account settings and turn everything off that has to do with them and see.
No publics. I can't remember the message I've seen, but some users display another message.
Next time I see it, I'll post it.
You're talking quicknotes, she's talking PM or private messages, not private quicknotes.
Wayne, you and I are talking about two totally different things, as has been said.
I am not talking about private or public quicknotes; I am talking about private messages, which, as has also been said, it currently is not possible for those to be turned off.

I'm saying, I've seen users have different messages about there receiving ability, and wondered what that means.

Right now, I see users with a message that says publics off. I assume that means all public QN's.
Then I sometimes see messages off. That seems to mean they don't see public, or even private QN's.
I have seen the email deal too, but not lately, nor have I looked. That caused no emails, but I never knew if it caused no site emails, if I'm making sense.
I'm just wondering is all.
I happen not to be interested as I've said, just wondering if the settings someplace.
Wayne, you're right about publics off meaning public qn's are turned off. And messages off means you can't send them any quicknotes at all.
Supose you block all quick notes, and remove yourself from the mailing list?
If you've got all the quick notes blocked, and you get off the mailing list, the only thing left, is the ability to send you a private message on here.
I assume that is what you were and are talking about.
These seem easy to ignore, just like messages on the Zone by phone deal. You never have to check them at all.

Chelsea, it's good you brought it up. Never hurts to ask for what you want, IMHO. No such thing as dumb questions, and all that.
I know this, hence my creating this topic.
if one never asks for what they want, they surely won't get it, but if he or she asks, they'll at least have a chance at receiving it.
I personally wouldn't use this if it were implemented, but I'm glad Chelsea brought it up. It would be a good feature to be able to block PM's entirely, not just on an individual user basis. Anthony, good on you for bringing it to the admins. I know that likely nothing will be done with it, but you've done all you can, and it is appreciated.
The only other thing I saw was under mail settings, you can stop mail from coming to you in your email account. You'll still have them waiting here, but, that's a bit more.
